... can't see why they thought they would get the money for not seeing the problem they were creating in the first place

Hmm.  North Somerset Council have some previous for that, too.

Is the ridiculous plastic barrier at the north end of Sidmouth Street

And the plastic wands separating the car and bike lanes. Don't know if the barrier is still there. The main problem is that there is no "legal" way of getting from the Kennet towpath to Sidmouth Street (short of carrying on to Watlington Street ...). The pot of money they didn't get was to connect the towpath to Sidmouth Street, can't see why they thought they would get the money for not seeing the problem they were creating in the first place

Is the ridiculous plastic barrier at the north end of Sidmouth Street - as in a Google Maps Street View image from November 2022 and visible on the 'latest' aerial shot - still there? That certainly wouldn't have encouraged cyclists to go anywhere near it.

Reading Borough Council complain they are being short changed on the cycling grant https://road.cc/content/news/council-blames-slashed-cycling-and-active-travel-budget-304313
... the existing Sidmouth Street cycle lane
is that useful I have never even seen a delivery bike on it.
